Chapter 9

It was nearly four o’clock in the morning before Emmy finally collapsed and fell into a deep sleep, snoring and drooling. And as Adamis looked down on her in the light of the moon, he realized the graveness of his feelings for her.

He should have been happy, seeing her so exhausted, satisfied, dreaming of a life and future that may never come. But it broke his heart. And perhaps he had put them both in danger because of his lack of control.

He’d never lost that control before. Was this coming from Darius’ DNA, or was this something his own body developed, nurtured and presented to him? Something his brain thought he needed, and, without instruction, delivered on that promise.

There was so much to learn about having a sexual relationship with anyone, and it was never supposed to be with a human, unless permission had been granted, in advance. But, of course, Darius could fix that; it’s just that Adamis didn’t want to place him in that kind of jeopardy, and he knew Darius would be upset, as he had every right to be. For these consequences affected him as well.

All the same, Adamis was an honorable man; he would do what he needed to do and face the reality of what he’d created. What he wouldn’t allow is for something to happen to Emmy. Emmy had quickly become the trajectory that governed his immediate and urgent actions, and he was amazed at how fast everything had changed. He hoped he had the smarts to keep track of everything he had to keep track of to keep them both out of danger.

He slipped out of bed, brought his boxers into the living room, and closed the door behind him, hoping Emmy would sleep the rest of the night and not disturb him.

Inside the front coat closet was the safe where he kept his tablet from Darius. He quickly pulled it out, and checked for messages. It didn’t appear there were any.

With some relief, he launched into his project. He signed into today and began sorting his thoughts. He would be careful how he communicated with his maker.

Tapping into the keyboard, he left Darius a message and requested a phone chat if that was possible. He told Darius there had been many things that occurred, and he had intended to call him earlier in the evening last night, but got distracted.

Adamis knew just spelling that out exactly as he did would alarm Darius, but it was the truth, and, if Darius was going to help him, he needed to know the reality and the truth of his situation.

It didn’t take more than about 30 minutes before he heard the familiar beep and Darius was on the line, digitally.

‘Ready to communicate.’

He dictated into the tablet’s microphone, which would also leave a digital footprint and send a file to his internal records system, erasing the original message on the phone. It was a simple security element installed for his convenience. It was somewhat more complicated for Darius, as his brain didn’t record and store data the same way.
